Full smart rewiring and automation of a 70-year-old heritage bungalow — preserving every tile and beam, adding every modern convenience.
This 70-year-old bungalow in Mylapore had original British-era wiring — round-pin sockets, cloth-sheathed cables, and no neutral wire at most switch points. The homeowner, a heritage enthusiast, wanted full smart home automation but refused to alter the original mosaic tile floors, teak wood beams, or plastered walls any more than absolutely necessary. Most electricians refused the job entirely.
Our team spent an entire day mapping the existing wiring before touching a single switch. We designed a routing plan that used existing conduit channels where possible, added thin PVC conduit along cornices (painted to match), and used wireless smart devices in rooms where wiring was impractical. Smart switches were flush-fitted into the original wooden switchboards. A local home controller was placed in the storeroom. Garden lighting and the water tank controller were connected wirelessly.
